Summary:

Mrs. Tiggy-winkle is a hedgehog and a washerwoman for the animals in the neighbourhood. She lives in a small cottage in the fells of the Lake District.

A girl named Lucie lived at a farm called Little-town and always losing her pocket-handkerchiefs. When she realized she lost her pocket-handkins again, she began to cry and begin to look for it, she asked Tabby Kitten, Sally Henny-penny and Cock Robin if they see her her pocket-handkins, but each one didn't know where it was.

She ran along a steep pathway until Little-town was down below, then she came to a spring and ran on and on till she happen upon Mrs. Tiggy-winkle home. She ask Mrs. Tiggy Winkle if she seen her pocket-handkins and stayed with Mrs. Tiggy until she finish ironing all the clothes for the animals and birds and then they had tea together.

When they had finished tea, they tied up the clothes in bundles and the two deliver freshly laundered clothing to the animals and birds in the neighbourhood.
